Synopsis

Trees endure time and memories. The environment and living beings revolve around trees, forming a collective life community.

Film director Zhao-yi WEI and composer Hsuan-hung CHOU’s cross-collaboration, co-creation project focuses on trees and consists of the conducting of recording, filming, soundscaping, and music writing in Kaohsiung City.

The perspective of trees is used to view the appearance of trees within the environment of human activity and further observe humans’ state of mind within this environment.

Watching the swaying of the shadows of trees and listens to music and those often-ignored sounds. In doing so, in addition to bringing out the imprints of life surroundings, from within the rhythm of everyday life, one is able to enter an unordinary sensual experience. Akin to daydreaming under a tree, one enters a world that is on the borderline between fantasy and reality, inspiring us to reflect upon the interaction.

Director Statement

I hope the audience can engage in a long time observation and contemplation, allowing their thoughts to gradually transcend beyond the boundaries of the scenery. Even through fleeting moments, they can connect back to their own life experiences. Although this artwork does not capture any imagery of human beings, I wish for the audience to imagine and feel how those unrecorded individuals interacted with the environment we inhabit. The traces left by humanity in the course of history merge and intertwine with the life of the trees, forming a symbiotic relationship. These trees bear witness to the history and cultural activities of humankind on this land. By observing the path of a tree, we endeavor to rethink the human life from a different perspective.
