Born in Chiayi, Taiwan, in 1974. LAI graduated from Mass Communication Department of Chinese Culture University. She made her first documentary about Taiwanese aboriginal culture for PTS in 2002. With great enthusiasm for Taiwanese traditional opera, she returned to hometown to shoot a documentary about outdoor performance of Taiwanese opera. There she met the female lead Annie by chance. The project The Immortals’ Play has been planned since then.
