Yung-chuan LEE

Introduction

Lee, Yung-Chuan was born 1953 in Yilan, Taiwan. He graduated from Taiwan University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Foreign Languages and Literatures. he had worked as an editor for united Daily News and a journalist for Economic Daily News before pursuing his MA in Radio-Television-Film at the University of Texas at Austin. His thesis project Bugged won the best film, best director and best editing at the International Student Film Competition. After returninng to Taiwan, he directed the Taiwan in Changes series for Public Television Service (PTS), and coordinated the restoration and preservation of Taiwanese-language films for the Chinese Taipei Film Archieve. In 1991, he began documenting the social movement phenomenon in Taiwan, as a documentarian, and also as an active participant. His most recent credits include, Turtle Island: Nostalgic Voices in 2000, part of the Floating Island series for PTS. He is the author of Taiwanese Cinema: On Illustrated History, and is currently teaching at the Department of Radio, Television, and Film at Shih Hsin University.
