Introduction

Everything fades, dear persons, familiar things. Everything distant, persons’ dearness, things’ familiarity. In 2003 I was searching for days in 1999 while mom was still alive. Traces of memory still alive in me. Then the memory left. Everything fades and becomes distant. But in a dream I had, she was still by my side. So I made this. Mother’s image goes on forever in this film along with my sorrow. I do acknowledge 1999 has gone, and what about 2003? It’s fading as well.

Director Statement

"Since my mother passed away four years ago, I keep thinking about her physical death. Does it really mean that she has disappeared completely? If the present is an extension of the past, can I still find living traces of my mother in my own life? Once, in a dream, I felt that my mother really was right there beside me again. I woke up crying, staring at the ceiling. I wanted to get back into the dream. If film is the art form that comes closest to dreams, then I want to capture my dreams with my camera. A friend of mine who watched this film asked me; is it that you don't want to leave her, or that you want to say goodbye to her? I think it is both." -- Wu Ching-Yi (Wuna)
