The Extra's Journey

Acting is a very mysterious job. If you are new to this business, you'll certainly encounter a lot of difficulties such as low pay, long working hours, and no guarantee of future employment.

But there are always people who want to chase their dreams, trying everything they can just to get in the acting business. WU documents three extra actors of different generations in Taiwan. Through their stories, we discover how they struggle to pursue their show business dream in Taiwan, and how has Taiwan’s role in Film & TV industry changed in the Chinese-speaking world.

WU Hsin-yu

WU holds a master degree in Documentary & Film Archiving from Tainan National University of the Arts. She was a director/program writer in DaAi TV channel and now an independent documentary filmmaker. WU’s co-directing documentary film The Wall won Best Documentary in the Short Films category at 2015 Golden Harvest Awards.


Jerome WANG

WANG graduated from School of Performance and Screen Studies, Kingston University, London. He is an experienced theater maker, filmmaker and performer in Taiwan. The Extra’s Journey is his first documentary work.
